Based on the best selling novel by James Ellroy and directed by Curtis Hanson, the stunning, immaculate, award winning crime drama explores the dark side of Los Angeles and its police force. The Hush, Hush feel of the movie intrigues the audience and keeps you submersed. The question is how long will it keep the audience under? L.A. Confidential is a fast, murderous, star filled classic! The 1950s based Neo Noir is set in a drugged up City of Angels, where it follows three LAPD officers caught up in corruption. The three clever cops played by Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce and Kevin Spacey try to solve a murder frenzy at the Nite Owl coffee shop. But as the story develops they get deeper and deeper into the crime filled city.
Heroin, organized crime, prostitution and institutional racism breaks down the previously strong cops one by one. Prostitution brings down the physical Bud (Crowe) as well as the young smart detective Exley (Pearce). As the story gets deeper and harder to follow Jack (Spacey) is taken down by the organised crime due to getting to close to solving the crime and the skeletons in the closet.
This dirty but clean cut film is a must watch for ANY movie goer. The open setting of L.A. is a beautiful place for the ugly goings on in the film. It takes the audience through twists and turns, suburbs to cities and zeroes to heroes. Confidential smashed the box office in 1997 and is still a classic and always will be, how many more reasons do you need to watch it?
